Audition Notice 1

 Landmark Musicals Presents

SHOWTUNE

AUDITION NOTICE

SHOWTUNE is  a popular musical revue celebrating the words and music of Broadway giant Jerry Herman. The 40 songs featured in the show come from Herman musicals Milk and Honey, Hello, Dolly!, Mame, Dear World, Mack & Mabel, The Grand Tour, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and La Cage aux Folles. The songs are juxtaposed into thematic scenes and song cycles, placing a strong emphasis on Herman's lyrics and their optimism. The song-cycle format creates dramatic sub-texts giving through-lines to the show, making Showtune unique among musical revues. All cast members require a wide emotional range. They deliver classic musical comedy contrasted with tender, heartbreaking moments. They perform ensemble numbers as well as solos. There is no book; the entire revue is sung through. There is no "fourth wall" between the cast and audience, yet the show is not presentational. Rather, it is conceived as friends sharing good times and heartfelt emotions.

CASTING REQUIREMENTS: All performers require legit voices, distinct character types, with comic flair. Must move well.

WOMAN 1: Leading woman type, 40s-50s, alto, low F# to high C# with a belt. Some soprano singing is involved.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

Auditions July 11 & 12.  Musical.  Call for more information and/or to reserve a time slot:  242-4750.

ALT has an open casting policy which means there are always new faces at auditions, and new faces cast in the shows.  Newcomers are welcome to attend, and try out. If not cast, you are encouraged to become involved with the production crews until the next audition date rolls around. While people with experience are more likely to acquire lead roles, the inexperienced actor has emerged as a leading person or in many cases has the opportunity to grow into a larger part via a smaller one. Auditions are generally set two to three months in advance of the play. Information is available by calling the Box Office at 242-4750.

Interested in auditioning? All auditions are held at the theatre. Because each director will handle auditions differently, you will need to call the Box Office for times. The Box Office phone is 505-242-4750. Feel free to call and find out more about Auditions. Scripts can be checked out from the Box Office for 24 hours with a $10 deposit.
