The Southwest Irish Theater Festival
ATG Members: Aux Dog Theatre Nob Hill, Mother Road Theatre Company, The Adobe Theater, The Desert Rose Playhouse, and The Vortex Theater
Location: Sponsoring theatres
Date: February 10 through April 15
Description: The Southwest Irish Theater Festival will present five plays written by Irish playwrights and produced by ATG member theatres between February and April, 2012. Its aim is to highlight the importance and richness of Irish Theater.
Unlike American theater, the Irish Theater Movement played a central role in establishing both the national identity of Ireland as well as aiding its political independence from Britain. At the same time there runs through this theater an examination and celebration of the important rural culture that supports much of the Irish tradition and spirit. From John Millington Synge in the early 1900’s to Martin McDonagh in the 21st century, the Irish rural culture has been the source of a brilliant examination of the human condition.
