ONCE UPON A
THEATRE, a non-profit New Mexico corporation, is a touring theatre
company dedicated to improving the education of the children in our
area. ONCE UPON A THEATRE’S program brings into schools
the joy, excitement and developmental and academic stimulus of
quality live theatre and assists teachers in maximizing the
experience through effective teaching tools before and after
performances. Since our inception, we have taken our
educational theatre program to over 98,000 children and adults in
more than 110 venues in Albuquerque and surrounding communities.
ONCE UPON A THEATRE presents age-appropriate
productions that expose students to a way of looking at the world
through the eyes of live performance. Our productions
include experienced, paid, adult actors; full costuming; original
music; and detailed sets that are fully portable so they may be
taken to schools. However, the portability does not sacrifice
the quality of the beauty of the presentations. By performing
in schools we eliminate the coordination and significant expense of
arranging transportation for off-site productions, and less time
away from the classroom is required.
ONCE UPON A THEATRE designs two separate
productions each school year. Fall productions
for kindergarten through elementary age children are original
versions of classic fairy tales. These unique adaptations,
written partially in rhyme, deliver positive messages about
diversity, friendship, caring and the power of acceptance.
During Fall 2008, ONCE UPON A THEATRE
will present “Little Red Riding Hood”. Spring productions
for fourth through eighth grade students are original presentations
or adaptations of exceptional literary works. In
Spring 2009, ONCE UPON A THEATRE will
present a lively version of “Aesop’s Fables”.
