About the event
In 1990 a group of professional educators, musicians and theatrical performers founded Opera Unlimited in the mutual concern that more and more children were lacking an acquaintance with opera. Unique in our approach, Opera Unlimited is a non-profit educational performance company dedicated to the children of New Mexico.
Opera Unlimited seeks to promote appreciation and understanding of music, especially opera, by introducing it to school-aged children throughout New Mexico.Annually, we operate a day camp during the summer which educates children, ages 5 to 18, in the many aspects of theater by producing a full-lengh Gilbert and Sullivan light opera that is presented at the end of camp.
Join us for the 2023 Summer Opera Day Camp of The Mikado. There will be a meet-and-greet mid-May. The camp will run weekday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m., June 5 - July 6, with performances July 7 and 8 in the evening. We also present professional opera performances to elementary schools, libraries and community groups across the state. Enjoyable for children and adults, our outreach team exposes audiences to classical music through well-known stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, Three Billy Goats Gruff and Aesop’s Fables.
